La importancia del autoexamen de mama

Octubre es el mes en el que recordamos la importancia del autoexamen para detectar a tiempo el Cáncer de mama, el día 19 de octubre fue el día central, una manera simbólica de unirnos a este llamado de atención es lucir un lazo rosa o una prenda en este color,  como muestra de solidaridad hacia las muchas mujeres que están lidiando con esta dura enfermedad, pues nadie está libre de contraerla.

Otra de las formas de unirte a esta causa es participando de las diferentes actividades que se realizan durante el mes de Octubre, caminatas, carreras, etc. Para recaudar fondos que ayuden en la investigación y campañas de prevención que incentiven a las mujeres a realizarse un autoexamen en casa.

También puedes apoyar la causa comprando los productos rosa, muchas marcas de belleza y cosmética durante este mes ofrecen productos en promoción, parte de esas ventas se usan para luchar contra el cáncer de mama.

El origen del lazo rosa

El lazo rosa es el simbolo que representa la lucha contra el cáncer de mama, su origen se remonta al año 1992, la nuera de la empresaria de belleza Esteé Lauder, Evelyn Lauder decidió hablar abiertamente de esta enfermedad, creo una ONG que buscaba recaudar fondos para investigar la enfermedad, así fue como inicio el "movimiento rosa" que a día de hoy ha conseguido recaudar cerca de 80 millones de dólares.

Según la OMS, el cáncer de mama es el más común en las mujeres y el segundo más frecuente en general; mientras que el cáncer de cuello de útero es el cuarto y una de las principales causas de muerte por cáncer en mujeres a nivel mundial. Por eso en este mes se busca crear conciencia de la importancia del autoexamen, ya que detectar la enfermedad a tiempo puede marcar la diferencia, por eso quiérete, cuidate, revísate regularmente.

De acuerdo con la Sociedad Americana contra el Cáncer, las tasas de mortalidad han decrecido 40% entre las mujeres desde finales de los años 80, mientras que las de sobrevivencia con la detección temprana han mejorado en 90% de los casos, esperemos que estas cifras sigan decreciendo con el tiempo.
